THOSE
EYES.
Before the eyes, there was a perfectly ordinary alpaca called Al. He lived behind Fence 9, where every day repeated itself: hay, rain, hay again.
Then, one midnight, the northern hill began to hum. Al climbed it and found a tiny carrot glowing in a crater. The moment he bit it, he saw every road he had not taken—all at once.
His eyes never returned to normal. One watches the world as it is. The other watches the world as it might become. That is why they never quite agree.
The farm painter tried to capture the moment, but Al would not sit still. The lines stayed rough, the colors stayed loud, and the yellow sky stayed forever. Everyone called the drawing “Al, pack up!” because he was already leaving. Al heard “Al Paca.” He kept it.
“NORMAL IS JUST A FENCE
YOU HAVEN’T JUMPED YET.”
